Condominiums
at 1011 North Tyndall |
Steve
Shenitzer spoke about their plans for the apartment complex at this
address. His company bought the
apartments in May, and no one lives there now. They plan to demolish the existing
apartment complexes and build modern condos for visiting professors as well
as undergraduate and graduate students.
They were told by several departments at the UA that there was a need
for high-density quality condos. They
are thinking they will be 2 bedroom and 2 baths. There is no retail space planned, but
possibly they will have a coffee bar. They may have underground or grade
parking. Nothing has been drawn, and they
haven’t submitted anything to the City.
The current zoning is R3 with 3-4 stories allowed at 40’. They will come back to WUNA after they get
input from the City and have a design to show us. They will be looking at rezoning. They will try to make the condos blend in
with the neighborhood, and they welcome input from the neighbors. |
Board
members expressed their concerns about the rezoning and the possibility of
having more than four stories. |

Crime
Trends / Problems with |
Sgt.
Sean Cunneely reported that increased car larceny is the only crime trend in
the neighborhood. As of the 1st
of April, police will be assigned specifically to our area 24 hours a
day. There is a possibility of having
a trespass letter for homeowners near Tucson High. Chris Nichols reported that since it has
been warmer, the litter has increased.
He had a run-in with about a dozen students in the alley who showed
him disrespect. The neighbors need more respect from the school too. Speed humps may be coming. Joe Wasiak reported that his car was keyed
in his driveway, and when he was gone for a week, someone painted on his
driveway. Graffiti abatement cleaned
it up today. Richard Mayers said that
the Iron Horse Neighborhood Association has been working with the state
legislature to address this problem. |

Lori
Boston suggested Chris and Mary Nichols and Joe Wasiak work with the Iron
Horse Neighborhood Association in contacting the legislature. |

Group
Forum on Yahoo! |
Gal
Witmer talked about the problem that occurred last summer that there were
some nasty comments made on some postings with no real names. At this time, the group forum is open to
everyone. There was a discussion about
whether we need more than a username to identify people (an address, their
real name, a paragraph describing why they want to be a member?). Some thought the group forum should be
restricted to WUNA members, and others thought that more discussion takes
place with anonymity. Joe Wasiak said
it is a group forum not a listserve.
He suggested that we write “Rules of Etiquette” at the top. We could also have these rules written out
when we send out invitations to join. |

Lori
Boston will send out an e-mail to the Board members with step-by-step instructions
on how to become a member of the group forum.
Matt Williams, Lori Boston or Gal Witmer can help people get signed
up. Matt can do a survey whether
people want a moderator and have it open or more restricted. |

Membership |
Lori
Boston would like the membership to increase.
Some members took around doorhangers with information about WUNA and
our Board meeting. |

Our
website and the group forum should be noted in our newsletters. Lori Boston is to get the Board members a
list of members so they can know who in their area is a member and who is
not. Vivian Harte can make newcomer
kits to be given to people who move into the neighborhood. |
